Key points

  • Effective October 1, Gary Campbell becomes President, Americas, and Brian Hatcher becomes President, Recon, S.E.T., CMFT, Neuro and Biosurgery; Bradley Kessler was named President, Americas – Robotics, Technology and Data.
  • Kevin Thornal, Group President, Global Businesses and the Americas, leaves the company on September 30, 2026.
  • Zimmer Biomet reiterated the full-year 2026 outlook it gave on August 5.

Zimmer Biomet has restructured the leadership of its Americas and global business organizations, promoting three executives to report directly to Chief Executive Ivan Tornos and parting ways with the group president who oversaw both areas.

The company said in a September 8 announcement that the appointments are designed to streamline the two organizations "for greater focus and agility." It filed the same release with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Who takes which role

Effective October 1, Gary Campbell will become President, Americas, responsible for commercial strategy and execution across the United States, Canada and Latin America. Campbell has been vice president and general manager of Orthopedics – North America since September 2024 and joined the company in 2019 after sales and marketing roles at Enovis, according to the release.

Brian Hatcher, currently President of S.E.T. and CMFT, will become President, Recon, S.E.T., CMFT, Neuro and Biosurgery on the same date, adding global knees and hips to his remit. Lou Galrao, President of Reconstruction (Knees and Hips), will report to Hatcher, the company said.

Bradley Kessler, vice president and general manager of Robotics, Technology and Data Solutions, was promoted to President, Americas – Robotics, Technology and Data. Zimmer Biomet said that under Kessler it will accelerate the expansion of its specialized robotics salesforce ahead of the launch of its Monogram next-generation orthopedic robot, which it expects in 2027. Kessler joined the company in 2015 after nearly 10 years in sales at Stryker.

Kevin Thornal, Group President, Global Businesses and the Americas, will leave on September 30, 2026, after a transition period. Zimmer appointed Thornal, the former CEO of Nevro, to the newly created role last year, and he will receive severance payments including a lump sum equal to his annual base salary and target bonus, MedTech Dive reported.

Sales force overhaul

"These well-deserved promotions do exactly that, while helping to accelerate our U.S. go-to-market transformation and sharpen ownership of our most important commercial priorities," Tornos said in the release.

The changes come as Zimmer converts its 2,500-person US sales force from independent contractors to fully dedicated specialists, a process that will run until the end of next year, according to MedTech Dive. Stifel analysts told investors the new structure provides a "clearer division of labor" and supports that overhaul, the publication reported.

Zimmer Biomet also said it is reiterating the full-year 2026 financial outlook it provided on August 5, 2026. Stifel analysts called the reiterated outlook "particularly encouraging" in light of comments from Stryker's chief financial officer about US joint replacement volumes at an investor event the same day, according to MedTech Dive.
