Siemens Healthineers Names Enterprise Services Chief João Seabra Head of the Americas

Seabra, a 25-year company veteran based in Portugal, will move to the US to succeed John Kowal on Oct. 1, the latest step in a leadership reshuffle the company began in May.

Key points

  • Siemens Healthineers appointed João Seabra president and head of the Americas, effective Oct. 1, 2026, succeeding John Kowal.
  • Seabra has led the company's Enterprise Services business, which the company said quadrupled its revenue over the last eight years.
  • Kowal, a former Varian Americas president, took the role in April 2025 when David Pacitti left to become CEO of Avanos.

Siemens Healthineers has appointed João Seabra, head of its Enterprise Services business, as president and head of the Americas, effective Oct. 1, the company said in a press release dated July 30. Seabra succeeds John Kowal.

Darleen Caron, the managing board member responsible for the Americas and the company's chief human resources officer, called Seabra "the ideal candidate to lead the Americas, the largest market and a region of great strategic importance for Siemens Healthineers." She credited him with creating "Value Partnerships of increasing scope and impact with key customers."

A company veteran moves to the US

Seabra joined Siemens Healthineers in 2001 and has held roles with responsibility for financial performance and business growth, regional operations and customer-facing activities, according to the release. From 2015 to 2018 he led the company's Western Europe and West Africa regions. As head of Enterprise Services, the company said, he has scaled the business and quadrupled its revenue over the last eight years.

He holds a master's degree in computer and electric engineering from Universidade do Porto in Portugal. Seabra currently lives in Portugal and will relocate to the United States, the company said.

In the release, Caron thanked Kowal "for his many years of successful service and outstanding commitment to Siemens Healthineers - first within our Varian business and later as President and Head of our Americas business." The company did not say what Kowal will do next.

Kowal has led the Americas for a little more than a year. Siemens Healthineers named him to the post effective April 14, 2025, when his predecessor, David Pacitti, left to become chief executive officer of Avanos, according to a March 2025 company release. Kowal joined Varian's sales team in 2005 and became president of the Americas for Varian in 2017, that release said.

Part of a broader reshuffle

The appointment follows changes to the company's top ranks announced earlier this year. When it reported second-quarter results on May 7, Siemens Healthineers cut its fiscal 2026 outlook, citing a structural change in the Chinese diagnostics market and higher inflation assumptions, according to its results release. CEO Bernd Montag said then that the company was "initiating the next steps to create options for Diagnostics and introducing an evolution of the leadership team."

Siemens Healthineers, which had about 74,000 employees and revenue of around €23.4 billion in fiscal 2025, describes itself as principally active in imaging, diagnostics, cancer care and minimally invasive therapies.
