Henry Schein Replaces Executive Committee as Three Longtime Leaders Step Down
New CEO Fred Lowery is forming a new leadership team and folding the global supply chain into distribution, while the COO, chief strategy officer and supply chain chief move to advisory roles.

Key points
- Henry Schein said on July 30 that it is creating a Henry Schein Leadership Team to replace its Executive Management Committee and will integrate its global supply chain organization with its global distribution group.
- COO Michael Ettinger, Chief Strategy Officer Mark Mlotek and global supply chain head James Mullins will leave their roles effective Oct. 30 and remain as senior advisers.
- The changes come under CEO Fred Lowery, who joined from Thermo Fisher Scientific in March, MedTech Dive reported.
Henry Schein is replacing its executive management committee with a new leadership team and combining its global supply chain organization with its global distribution group, the dental and medical products supplier said in a press release dated July 30 and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
As part of the changes, Chief Operating Officer Michael Ettinger, Chief Strategy Officer Mark Mlotek and James Mullins, senior vice president of global supply chain, will transition out of their roles effective Oct. 30 and then remain with the Melville, New York-based company as senior advisers, according to the release.
"I am pleased to announce a new leadership structure at Henry Schein that reflects an important evolution of our organization designed to help Henry Schein become simpler, prioritize and make decisions faster, better execute on our priorities, and become an even more customer-centric organization," said CEO Fred Lowery.
Supply chain moves closer to distribution
The company said the new Henry Schein Leadership Team will continue to develop its strategic priorities, accelerate execution and improve collaboration across the business. Lowery said bringing supply chain teams "closer to the customers served by our distribution businesses" and enabling direct management of corporate functions would speed decision-making and simplify the operating model.
Lowery credited Mlotek with helping grow Henry Schein over more than 30 years from "a small, privately-held mostly dental mail-order company" into a multibillion-dollar public company, and recognized Ettinger and Mullins for building its corporate, legal and supply chain infrastructure. In a related Form 8-K, the company said Ettinger and Mlotek will be entitled to payments and benefits under its executive severance plan.
Changes under a new CEO
The reorganization is the most significant change at the company since Lowery took over as CEO earlier this year, Evercore ISI analyst Elizabeth Anderson wrote in a note to clients, MedTech Dive reported on Aug. 3. Lowery joined Henry Schein in March from Thermo Fisher Scientific, where he was president of laboratory products and bioproduction, and succeeded Stanley Bergman, whose tenure as CEO spanned 35 years, according to the outlet.
The changes follow the board's decision late last year to let private equity firm KKR raise its stake in the company to as much as 19.9%, MedTech Dive said. KKR gained an approximately 12% stake in May 2025. William "Dan" Daniel, an executive adviser to KKR and a former Danaher executive, became chairman in May when Bergman retired from that role, the outlet reported.
Henry Schein, which says its sales reached $13.2 billion in 2025, serves office-based dental and medical practitioners and has operations or affiliates in 34 countries and territories. The company was scheduled to report second-quarter earnings on Aug. 4.
