Tecomet and Orchid Orthopedic Solutions have closed their merger, creating a combined contract manufacturer for medical device and aerospace and defense customers that will operate under the Tecomet name, the companies said on May 14. Andreas Weller, Tecomet's CEO, has been named CEO of the combined company.

The companies did not disclose financial terms. They first announced a definitive agreement to merge on January 14, 2026, in a release published by Medical Design and Outsourcing. That release said the combination had the joint support of Charlesbank Capital Partners and Nordic Capital, the majority owners of Tecomet since 2017 and of Orchid since 2019. Charlesbank also posted the closing announcement.

Two large orthopedic suppliers

The deal brings together two of the largest contract manufacturers in the orthopedic space, BONEZONE reported. The trade publication said Orchid has invested heavily in electron beam melting to expand its additive manufacturing, while Tecomet is known for high-precision instruments and cases and trays.

Tecomet operates 14 manufacturing locations across five countries, with capabilities including forging, casting, precision machining, photochemical etching, finishing, additive manufacturing and sterile packaging. Orchid makes implants, instruments and other products for joint reconstruction, hips, knees, spine, trauma, extremities and dental, from 10 facilities in the US, the UK and Switzerland.

"This combination is about more than scale. It is about building a platform that can meet the increasing complexity and demands of our customers with greater precision, reliability, and speed," Weller said in the closing announcement.

Integration and leadership

The companies said integration will be phased, with dedicated teams coordinating to limit disruption, and that safety, quality, regulatory compliance and on-time delivery remain unchanged priorities across all sites.

BONEZONE reported that the new executive team includes Jason Brasile as chief financial officer, Mitch Moeller as chief commercial officer, Scott Shankle as chief quality assurance and regulatory affairs officer, Mat Ackerman as executive vice president of business transformation and Angie Rohrer as chief human resources officer.

Orchid's chief executive at the time of the January agreement, Nate Folkert, is not on that list. Smith+Nephew said on May 6 that Nathan Folkert, most recently CEO of Orchid, will join it later in May as President, Orthopaedics.
