Artivion Completes Endospan Acquisition, Adding the NEXUS Aortic Arch System

Artivion paid a $135 million upfront net price for its longtime Israeli partner a month after the FDA approved NEXUS, with more money due if sales targets are met.

Key points

  • Artivion said on May 18 that it had completed its acquisition of Endospan, developer of the NEXUS aortic arch stent graft system.
  • It funded the $135 million upfront net purchase price with a previously drawn $150 million delayed draw term loan; further consideration depends on commercial performance.
  • The FDA approved Endospan's premarket approval application for NEXUS in April 2026, and Artivion has distributed the system in Europe, the Middle East and Africa since 2019.

Artivion has completed its acquisition of Endospan, the Israeli developer of the NEXUS Aortic Arch System, the Atlanta-area aortic surgery company said in a release dated May 18 and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Artivion used its previously drawn $150 million delayed draw term loan to fund the $135 million upfront net purchase price.

The transaction also includes potential additional consideration contingent on commercial performance, Artivion said, without giving a figure. Artivion announced on May 8 that it was exercising its option to acquire Endospan, Endovascular Today reported.

From distributor to owner

The FDA approved the premarket approval application for the NEXUS branched endovascular stent graft system in April 2026. Endospan, which is headquartered in Herzliya, Israel, also holds a CE mark to sell NEXUS in Europe, and Artivion has been its exclusive distributor across Europe, the Middle East and Africa since 2019.

Endospan says NEXUS is the first off-the-shelf endovascular system for aortic arch disease, including aneurysms and dissections near the arch. According to the release, patients with these conditions have often had to undergo open-chest surgery, while minimally invasive endovascular repair is already the standard of care for abdominal aortic aneurysms.

NEXUS joins two other Artivion aortic arch products: the AMDS hybrid prosthesis, used for aortic arch remodeling in acute DeBakey type I aortic dissections, and the Arcevo left subclavian artery hybrid stent graft system, Endovascular Today reported.

A three-product arch portfolio

"Our acquisition of Endospan and its NEXUS system completes our market-leading, three-pronged aortic arch portfolio," said Pat Mackin, Artivion's chairman, president and CEO. He said the combination makes Artivion "the only company globally with a complete portfolio of aortic arch solutions," a claim the company made in its release.

"Further, NEXUS is a platform technology, not just a single product," Mackin said, adding that the deal brings a pipeline of next-generation arch technologies still in development.

Artivion sells its products in more than 100 countries. Its four main product groups are aortic stent grafts, surgical sealants, On-X mechanical heart valves and implantable cardiac and vascular human tissues, the company said.

The completion release did not give a US launch date for NEXUS, a revenue forecast for the system or the size of the contingent payments.
